Can two searching souls ever find common ground?
After being injured in Vietnam, Brian Lowe returns home in a wheelchair to the family mansion on the Mississippi River in Missouri—and to a nation that has seemingly turned against the very men and women fighting for its freedom. As if life couldn’t get any more complicated for Brian, he is assigned a beautiful, sassy physical therapist who just happens to be an outspoken war protestor. Kathy Nowlin has lived her life with passion, but her passions for her career and her strong feelings about the war collide in the person of Brian Lowe. Can these two searching souls ever find common ground?
Set against the nostalgic backdrop of bell-bottoms, Volkswagen Beetles, tie-dye, and rock and roll, the darker rumblings of the Vietnam War era cast their shadow as Raney's novella explores timeless questions of life, love, and faith.

Finally Home edition by Deborah Raney Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Brian and Kathy both put super efforts into his relearning to walk. I felt the characters needed more development and the story ended too soon.
This book is well written but UNFORTUNATLEY did not hold my attention for long. It seemed all about this hippie therapist making through to help this veteran home from Vietnam. There is some moments that were interesting but all along I could remember all the negatives on our heroes home from Vietnam.
This seemed more like a novella to me. It was good. It was set in a time period (which is sad to think about now) of how Vietnam vets were treated when they came home to the US. I'm thankful that there seems to be more military support now. It was an easy read. I read it on one day. I like the author but sometimes I feel her novels are way too serious. This one had some serious moments but nothing like others I've read.
War-protester Kathy is also the physical therapist for injured vet, Brian.
Only one typo I noticed, well written. Honestly not much drama or suspense, they just get along super well, even when things come that could be conflict. Their very different views on the war both come from their faith, interestingly enough, though we don't get much detail on the whys.
A wonderful story by a writer who is "for real." Her character shines through the ones she creates. Deb Raney is a writer's writer with her consistency and story-telling ability. Finally Home is another feather in her cap. She highlights the plight of returning vets. Does anyone care when they come home with a limb or piece of their memory missing? From Alzheimers to this story, Deb is unafraid to tackle tough subjects, as evident from her first award winning fiction until now.
I agree with another reviewer. . . longer, please?
This is the first book that I've read from Deborah Raney. I bought it on a whim. I enjoyed this short story and I didn't want it to end. I'm certain I'll be reading more of her books in the future.
This book has an almost predictable ending; but it's the material between that makes it a little more interesting than most. A young physical therapist is assigned to helping a wounded warrior of the Vietnam era recover his ability to walk. The perspective that each of them bring to the situation is what gives the story some depth. It's a quick read, and I enjoyed it. I guess you would call it historical fiction. If you read a lot of heavy, fact-filled stuff, like I normally do, this is a nice change that will give your brain and emotions a bit of a rest.
